Spring After School Classes

Heroes and Villains (After School Theater Class)

Each class will be an epic adventure. Students will bring to life noble heroes, scheming villains, and everyone in between in this active introduction to theater character development class. Using theater games and activities students will create their own original hero or villain as this class will focus on character development and backstory.  Once we create our knight in shining armor or dastardly mischief maker, we will unleash them on the world in a story created by everyone in this ensemble class. We are sure to have an honorable and wicked fun time together. No experience is necessary as this is the perfect class for beginners as well as those with experience. At the end of this 10 class session students will show what they have learned for parents and family in a small Share-formance.

  • Day/Time: Mondays, 3:00 – 5:00
  • Dates: February 14 - April 25 (10 classes)
  • Ages: Best enjoyed by children 5 – 8 years old
  • Tuition: $200

Broadway Boogie! (After School Musical Theater Class)

Jazz hands at attention. Now let the fun begin!  In this high energy musical theater class students will touch upon ballet, Jazz, singing and much more as performers will learn songs and dance moves from their favorite Broadway shows. This musical theater dance fundamentals class will have kids grooving along to favorite Broadway hits from shows such as Annie, Matilda, Beauty and the Beast, Addams Family Musical, and more! Students will also focus on theater foundations, acting, and stagecraft using theater activities and games. No experience necessary as Broadway Boogie is a great way for performers to develop confidence, coordination, and creative physical expression. At the end of this session students will show what they have learned for parents and family in a small Share-formance.

  • Day/Time: Wednesdays, 3:00 – 5:00
  • Dates: February 16 - April 27 (10 classes)
  • Ages: Best enjoyed by children 8 – 12 years old
  • Tuition: $200

About Young Rep

Cinnabar Theater is committed to training young people in the performing arts to make a lasting and meaningful connection between the arts and their daily lives. We see the impact theater has on kids every day. It teaches empathy and responsibility. It fosters creativity, teamwork and leadership. It creates community.

Our Young Repertory was founded in 1983 to counteract the precipitous decline in arts funding for public schools. Over the years, we’ve served thousands of students and are enormously proud that no child is ever turned away for lack of funds.

The Young Rep serves youth of all ages, from 4-year-olds who are just starting pre-school to 18-year-olds finishing high school. We offer fully-produced shows, fun summer camps, after-school classes, Broadway-level seminars, ticket discounts, and community service opportunities. Everything takes place in the iconic red schoolhouse perched atop a grassy hill on the outskirts of Petaluma.

How to get involved in Young Rep

We want to make theatergoing a lifelong habit, so we offer frequent discounts for youth. Tickets for professional shows are usually $15 or $25, but they can be had for just 9 bucks for our community-building *Friday Night Live events.

*Friday Night Live is on hiatus due to COVID-19, but we look forward to bringing it back in the future.

As a nonprofit organization, Cinnabar depends on volunteers to serve our community. Whether you’re a child, a teen, or a grown-up, we welcome your assistance.

Sign up below for our email list and receive timely emails about upcoming events, classes, camps and show registrations.

We’re always looking for talented teachers, directors, and choreographers who can inspire and guide our students.

We’re enormously proud of our Young Rep. But the more children we serve, the more it costs. Ticket sales and tuitions only pay half our expenses for these programs! Through individual donors and corporate partnerships, we can continue these important activities for local families. As a nonprofit and an integral part of our close-knit community for four decades, we deeply appreciate your generosity.

Cinnabar Theater is proud to offer work - trade scholarships to those families who are unable to afford the tuition for its programs. The intent of the Scholarship Program is to give opportunities to youth who may not otherwise be able to afford it. Scholarships may be limited for some programs, but Cinnabar Theater will award as many as it is able.  For more information, click the info and application button below.
