Sing with Cinnabar
Come Be Part of Cinnabar Theater’s Next Production!
Cinnabar Theater, Sonoma County’s professional community theater, is seeking singers to join the onstage choir in our upcoming production of
The Christians by Lucas Hnath.
The Christians by Lucas Hnath.
We are looking for singers of all genders, ages 12–100 to portray members of a church choir. Performers of all experience levels are warmly welcome.
About the Play
This contemporary drama centers on a thriving church community that faces a profound moment of reflection after its pastor delivers a controversial sermon. The piece is thoughtful, balanced, and deeply human — it is not a satire or critique of faith, but rather an exploration of belief, community, and open dialogue.
While the play is set in a church and titled The Christians, it is not a theatrical work about religion itself. Instead, it examines how communities respond when long-held ideas are challenged.
The Role of the Choir
A unique and integral element of this production is its live, onstage choir, which performs four short, gospel-inspired musical moments throughout the play.
The choir functions both as:
-
A church choir within the world of the story
-
A kind of “Greek chorus,” reflecting and responding to the emotional landscape of the play
This is a wonderful opportunity to perform as part of a live professional theater production and collaborate with a cast of experienced artists.
Musical styles range from gospel to anthemic revival music. Example selections include:
-
God’s Unchanging Hand
-
Catch on Fire
-
I Feel Like Going On
-
Farther Along
(Final song selections to be announced.)
