Show Streaming Online

Stage Direction by Nathan Cummings

Music Direction by Bill Keck
Choreography by Bridget Codoni

We are excited to announce a new opportunity for Young Rep performers ages 7+ to perform in Cinnabar’s Spectacular Musical Revue, and some acting too. If you love musical theater, then this is the show for you! We will be choreographing and staging numbers from classical musical theater all the way up to today’s Broadway favorites. Along with traditional in-person rehearsals, performers will be provided with instructional videos and musical tracks to continue their rehearsal at home. No more scrambling for tickets! This production will be filmed and available to our audiences through a streaming platform so all your friends and family will be able to watch the show from home.

While it will not be possible for us to meet all together, we have developed a plan to rehearse and film our show in safe, small and stable cohorts. We will be practicing the health and safety protocols that we developed and used during our in-person summer camps which include daily wellness checks before sessions and to hold rehearsals outside as much as possible.

Please look below for details about the fun.

The health and safety of our students and teachers is our number one priority. We have created detailed COVID-19 Mitigation Measures which includes daily wellness checks before the start of rehearsal as well as detailed cleaning and disinfecting protocol. Students will be outside as much as possible; we are fortunate to have a lot of space and beautiful gardens in which to play. PLEASE BE SURE TO READ OUR MITIGATION MEASURES and be prepared to agree to our safety terms before enrolling.

If you have any questions at any time, please email Nathan at his new address: educationdirector@cinnabartheater.org

Auditions  Saturday Aug 29, 9:00am to 3:00pm

No experience is necessary to try out for a Young Rep show! Auditions are scheduled through an online sign-up, along with additional instructions about the check-in process. Please prepare 16-32 bars of a song in the style of the show, and bring sheet music in your key indicating your start and stop points for the accompanist. Be sure to fill out and bring the Show Enrollment form and the Conflict Calendar, which you can find on the Signup Genius under Related Files. Attach a recent photo to your Enrollment form. Arrive early enough to hand in and review your paperwork.

Please do not stress about auditions! Our faculty and Young Rep members will greet and guide you through the fun, collaborative process. If you have any specific questions, reach out to Nathan anytime.

Q: I AM A LITTLE CONFUSED. HOW IS THIS ALL GOING TO WORK?

Performers will be put into small groups. Each of those small groups will rehearse their section of the show separately. At the end of the rehearsal schedule we will film each group and then edit the show together and stream it out to the audience. Further details will be presented to the cast during our first day parent meeting.

Q: WHAT KIND OF SHOW WILL THIS BE? AND HOW MUCH PARTICIPATION WILL EACH STUDENT HAVE?

This show will be a Broadway review, with some acting too. We are currently putting together a fantastic group of numbers for students to work on. Musical numbers under consideration are from shows such as Spring Awakening, Mary Poppins, Rent, Pippin, Dear Evan Hansen, Camelot, Peter Pan, Hair, Aladdin, 13, Annie, Big River, The Little Mermaid, Mamma Mia, Beauty and the Beast, Matilda, The Jungle Book, Fame, Guys and Dolls, etc… Each student will be featured in at least 3 musical numbers.

Q. IS THIS GOING TO BE LIKE A REAL SHOW?

This will be a full show with the sets, costumes and lights you are accustomed to seeing at Cinnabar.

Q. WHAT IS THE REHEARSAL PROCESS GOING TO LOOK LIKE?

In order to maintain physical distancing and mitigate transmission of COVID-19, we are separating the larger group into small cohorts of about 12 performers. This means that we will need to increase the number of rehearsal days, however your performer will only be called to the theater 1-2 days a week. Depending on the turn-out we may have up to 4 groups. Children will be placed into a rehearsal group. Each group will be assigned one weekday rehearsal. Depending on the turn-out, for instance, if a child is placed into Group A, her rehearsal day would fall on Tuesdays from 4-7; Group B will rehearse on Wednesdays; Group C will rehearse on Thursday and Group D will rehearse on Fridays. Children will rehearse every other Saturday.

Q: HOW ARE YOU GOING TO GROUP THE PERFORMERS?

To the greatest extent possible, performers will be grouped by age.

Q: YOU MENTIONED AT HOME PRACTICING. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

Nowadays we are much more comfortable with technology, especially kids. The artistic staff will be creating choreography, blocking and music videos/recordings for cast members to practice at their own pace when they are away from the theater.

Q: HOW DO YOU INTEND TO PRESENT THE PERFORMANCE?

Cinnabar has contracted a new videographer who will film with multiple cameras and edit the performance. Once things are done on his end the theater will stream a ticketed show for everyone who would like to see it. We hope to make the show available to stream on a few different dates in late November or December.

Q: MY PERFORMER ENJOYS MUSICAL THEATER BUT REALLY LOVES ACTING. IS THERE A PLACE FOR HER IN THIS REVIEW?

Of course there is! The fantastic thing about this project is that we can tailor our content to fit the desires and talents of the performers. We could certainly see scenes of monologues being a part of this performance.

Q: WHAT IS CINNABAR’S CURRENT PLAN REGARDING COVID-19?

Cinnabar is following all health and safety guidelines of Sonoma County Health and Human Services. Please take a detailed look at the theater COVID-19 Mitigation Measures (insert new Mitigation Measures link)

Q: DURING IN-PERSON REHEARSALS WILL STUDENTS BE REQUIRED TO WEAR A MASK AND PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING?

Yes. At this time and for the foreseeable future all students will be required to wear masks when on the Cinnabar campus. Our space at the theater, including the outside grounds, provides us with enough room to adhere to the recommended distancing guidelines. Rehearsals will take place outside as much as possible.

Q: THIS ALL SOUNDS VERY EXCITING BUT I STILL HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS.

This is a new adventure for us at Cinnabar, but one that presents some exciting possibilities. Nathan is happy to go into detail and answer any additional question you may have. Please feel free to contact him at his new email address: educationdirector@cinnabartheater.org
