THE WINTER ROSE by Janis Dunson Wilson, Marlies Primmer and Kate Magill

What would you do if a great white Polar Bear arrived at your door, offering endless wealth for your poor family, in exchange for being allowed to whisk you away to unfamiliar lands to face unknown dangers? This world premiere musical, based on the Norwegian folk tale East of the Sun, West of the Moon, follows our heroine on a journey of self-discovery, learning along the way that things are not always as they seem. THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST by Oscar Wilde
ages 11-18
Subtitled “A Trivial Comedy for Serious People” this is one of Wilde’s most popular and enduring plays. The story follows Jack and Algernon, both using the name ‘Earnest’ as a cover-up for their under-the-radar activities. This works out well until their lovers, Gwendolyn and Cecily, declare they could never love anyone who was NOT called ‘Earnest!’ Things start to go awry when they all end up together and their deceptions are discovered, threatening to spoil their romantic pursuits. The lovers work through the trials and travails of courtship and they all discover that, in the end, there really is a vital importance to being ‘Earnest.’

La Belle Hélène by Jacques Offenbach
Ages 11-18
Directed by Eileen Morris and Jared Emerson-Johnson
Offenbach’s operetta, The Beautiful Helen, parodies the elopement of Helen of Greece with the handsome Prince Paris of Troy – an event which is said to have started the Trojan War. When the extraordinarily beautiful, but married, Helen resists the advances of the handsome prince from Troy, Paris makes her believe it’s all a dream and she agrees to return with him to his homeland. When her ‘spouse and louse,’ King Meneleus, arrives and finds the lovebirds together, Paris is forced to depart, vowing to return for his lady-love. Sometime later, a priest arrives, explaining that Helen must go with him and do penance for her offenses...but the priest is really Paris in disguise, and when she goes onboard his ship and they sail away together, the rest, as they say, is history.
