World Premiere American Idol has nothing on Ella Fitzgerald’s rags to riches story: the Apollo audiences were worse than a thousand Simon Cowells and Ella was homeless, a bedraggled vagrant who danced in the streets for meager handouts. How did a homeless New York street dancer become America’s First Lady of Song? Set in 1930’s Harlem, Ella: the American Dream features the swinging music of Ella Fitzgerald, finger popping dance reminiscent of the Cotton Club and cameos by Duke, Billie, Frankie Manning and more. Based on new historical findings about Ella’s humble beginnings, this play will leave you feeling optimistic and yearning for more. Single Tickets: Presale $32 General $28 Senior & Student, Door $35/30. Subscription: save 20%.
